Vista takes forever to open network folder

Vista business edition on a high spec machine (dual core AMD, 2GB RAM, 256
graphics) zips along quite nicely in it's own C:\ drive, browsing internet,
local resources etc, but browsing to any shared network drive takes about 2
minutes just to list the contents of the folder, and installing a piece of
software takes forever.
Details:
Windows updates applied, Firewall off, DHCP all OK, Win2003 servers, anti
virus not installed, fresh install, logged in as domain admin.

Any ideas? Same machine formatted as XP is fine.

Hello All ,

I've got the same problem here.
The computer is an Asus A7C Laptop, i've bought a Vista Business Licence
but, even working with the 2k3 domain , i take about 60 seconds to open a
NetworkFolder. With XP 1 second max. :-/ still cant understand...

If using active directory check the DNS settings on the Vista client. Make
sure the Vista client doesn't see any DNS servers except an AD one.

In fact it seems to be very slow with just one of our servers, any folder.
The server is win2003sp2, DNS server, DHCP. The folders are setup identically
to any of the other server that are browsed to quickly..
any ideas?

Me Too! Vista Ultimate loaded, same problem. My XP desktop opens network
folders like they're a local drive. Vista chokes nearly every time. Also,
Vista can choke/freeze while copying or moving a folder within my local
documents.
