Vista Taskbar issue

Hey guys/gals,

I have had an issue with my taskbar with Vista Home Premium. During a normal
working day, All the open programs, system tray etc. slide under the start
button, I have to reboot the OS to get everything back to normal. Any ideas?

Thank you for your post.

First, we don't think this is an issue that commonly exists on the Windows
Vista-based computers as we haven't received any similar feedbacks from our
customers.

Generally, this behavior you encounter could happen if we drag or move the
taskbar and system tray on Windows Vista. According to your description
about this issue, as this taskbar changed back to normal after a reboot,
this issue is then suspected to be related to some third party software
that is incompatible graphically in UI.

When this issue occurs again, you may try the following method to adjust
the taskbar.

1. Right click on the taskbar and click "Lock the Taskbar" in the context
menu.
2. Then, try dragging or move the slide, taskbar, system tray to adjust
them back to normal.

Apart from that, you may put the computer into the clean boot mode and
monitor if the issue will re-occurs. If the issue doesn't reoccurs in the
clean boot mode, we can disable the startup services / applications to
isolate the culprit of this issue.

Clean Boot
============
1. Click Start -> Run.
2. Input msconfig and click OK.
3. Click Service Tab and check Hide all Microsoft Services and click
Disable All.
4. Click Startup Tab and click Disable All.
5. Click OK and restart the computer.

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue
disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to
quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue

If the issue can be reproduced, please capture a screenshot on the whole
window and attach it in your reply, so that I can form a clear image of
this issue. Thank you!

This is definitely a problem with Windows Vista. I have never experienced
this problem with Windows XP and and terribly disappointed thus far that I
wasn't able to find a new computer that offered XP as the OS at the point of
purchase. Anyway, I'm experiencing the same problem where the buttons for
open programs will slide under the start button but if you click on them,
they still appear to be in the position they are supposed to be in however,
you can't click on the Start button any longer, it jumps and flashes and if
anything ever pops up, it's blank. I also seem to be having problems with my
program icons changing on their own and my computer time changes until I
reboot. This computer isn't virused because I've barely been able to use it
since I got it. I did try the things that were suggested in the attached
post and it didn't work. I am terribly unhappy so far with Vista. I was
hoping that the bugs might have been worked out since it first came out but
it appears there is a lot more work to do! If you have a real solution,
please let me know.

Never mind - I found the hotfix on your own website - Ariticle ID 932406 - So
far I haven't experienced the same problem since I downloaded the hotfix -
I've seen these same issues asked in various places on the internet without a
good solution - Please check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932406.

Now if my files will quit disappearing, I might be half satisfied.

I too have this problem... My Task bar will work for a while then
"stick" at the bottom. I can get it back if I open the task manager
END PROCESS on explorer.exe and restart explorer.exe.

I also have another problemm. My START UP menu is blank or more
specifically the area where my PINNED and recently used programs is a
white blank space.

I DO have the lates vide drivers.

I have a similar problem. Taskbar will not unlock, either from start button
properties or right clicking tasbar and clicking on "Lock the Taskbar". Tried
system restore to a point 2 days and several updates ago. System restore
returns an "unexpected error" message and won't work. I have only one user
account and logged in as administrator. Start menu also turns up with no
recent programs used (blank). Any ideas?

errata: also noticed that i can't show "Computer" and "Control Panel" on
desktop. Right clicking them on the start menu and clicking "Show on Desktop"
doesn't work.

I also have the same problem with my taskbar and start menu...everything on
my taskbar slides underneath the start button ..when i put my mouse over it
everything jumps around.As well sometimes when i click start its just a blank
page with only my display pic in the corner.I have updated my drivers gotten
all available updates.
