Vista SP1. It took over THIRTY FIVE minutes to copy 2.4 GB of files to a
pen drive.
Copying the same 2.4 GB of files from the pen drive to my Linux Netbook
took less than FIVE minutes.
Why is Vista so appallingly slow at copying?

Flash drive write speed is much slower than flash drive read speed.

Slow disc access routines has been the worst and most unforgiveable failure
of Vista since day 1.
Anyone who dual boots into any earlier version of Windows or any version of
Linux cannot help but notice the difference in installing programs, copying
files, accessing network shares, etc.
If you do not dual boot you will not know what a kludge Vista has always
been and remains today. Microsoft depends on this blissful ignorance among
its installed Vista base, most of whom acquired Vista on a new computer.
That being said: I do not believe there is a thirty minute difference that
you describe.

I had this same problem yesterday. It took literally overnight to cop
about 250Gb worth of data from one hard drive to another. I'm not sur
if this is because the Vista I was using had become corrupted. I'v
owned my computer for a month, and now it takes an hour -- AN HOUR -- t
reboot it

I'm trying a clean reinstall of Vista to see whether I can go back t
square one. If this crap happens again, I'm going to buy a copy of X
and backwardly migrate. Vista ate my weekend

Because MS flucked up something big time in Vista disk and network
operations that they only partially patched in SP1, leaving the core
problem behind.

This is a well know problem with Vista x86 and x64. Now fix fro
Microsoft yet? XP is twice as fast moving or copying files. Bottom line
it's not your system or install.:
