I've got the maximum amount of RAM (2 GB) and a 512MB video card, but I can
not enable the 3D window views in Vista at all!!

Can anyone assist me in getting this set up? Has anyone else been able to
enable 3D window views?

Cheers,

Sounds more like a driver issue. Lot of vendors were caught flat
footed or just have been lazy in getting Vista capable drivers out.
Even if they have, many featues like full support of 3D features may
still not be fully supported.

I have a full 3D desktop running Beryl on a computer with an Athlon 2000
cpu, a 64MB graphics card and 256MB of RAM. Runs great and fast and blows
Vista out of the water when it comes to productivity and eye-candy. I can
watch a movie, bring up the cube and look through the cube and still watch
the video play. Oops, forgot to mention, I'm running Ubuntu on this box.
That probably explains why the resource demands are so much less than the
bloatware MickeyMouse is able to come up with to produce an inferior 3D
experience. Oh, and did I mention - no silly activation, no DRM, freedom to
install on as many desktops as I wish for free, rock solid stability, no
need to pile on condoms to protect my system from malware, access to over
20,000 software packages just a click away, again all free. But most
importantly, I own this computer. I'm not bound by some silly EULA that
says I'm only renting the operating system as long as I continue to grovel
to the lessor of said software.

Cheers.

Hmmm.. thanks for your input guys (or gals)...

I have a rating of 5.0.. that should mean everything in Vista should work,
right? If so, then why will 3D Window Views not enable?

I have finally established that MSN Messenger Live is the culprit. It is not
compatible with Vista Aero, and you need to quit Windows Live Messenger in
order to enable Aero's 3M window views.

As it turns out, Windows Live Messenger is the culprit. It is incompatible
with Vista Aero, and needs to be quit/shut down in order to enable Aero's 3D
window views.

The same applies to:

Realtek TV2000XP Tuner
Harmony Remote Software
Logitech Profiler
Internet Download Manager

There are no Vista Aero-compatible patches for any of the above mentioned
products at this time. Realtek will not be supplying Vista drivers for any
of their pre-Vista releases on software or hardware. So if you have any
Realtek products bought before the release of Vista, they will be
essentially worthless/useless in this OS.

Windows Live Messenger is not incompatible with Aero.

Do you have Sun Java installed? Do make sure that you have the
Vista-compatible JRE 6 installed. Previous versions of Java did indeed have
issues with Aero.

You may wish to check your system date/time. You appear to be posting a day
behind.
