I've tried this on two machines and got a similar result. They bot
hibernate correctly with only Vista installed. After installin
OpenSolaris which introduces GRUB for multi-booting, Vista continues t
work perfectly fine with the exception of hibernation

I tried this previously on a Dell Inspiron 6400 which I have sinc
reverted back to Vista only, now using SP1 and it hibernates correctly

I am now using a Dell XPS 1530. I confirmed prior to installing o
OpenSolaris/GRUB that the hibernate function performs correctly whe
only Vista is installed

Using a clean build, I've installed Vista on its own 64GB partitio
(320GB drive). Applied SP1 and confirmed hibernation works, all good

I then installed Solaris Express Community Edition (B85) whic
introduces GRUB for multi-booting on its own 64GB partition. At thi
point Vista continues fine with the exception of hibernating

Hibernate is enabled correctly, and I have disabled and re-enable
using powercfg -h on/off to confirm. I have also confirmed the existenc
and removal of hiberfil.sys while doing so

When selecting hibernate, the machine starts to entering hibernatio
which the screen blanking and the disk active. It then just returns t
where you were

I have checked the event viewer and there are no entries related t
power management

In researching hibernation issues with Vista, I run the bcdedit comman
which returns with

"The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The syste
cannot find the file specified.

Under the startup and recovery tab I've system properties, there is n
entry for the Vista OS as I assume the Windows boot loader has bee
replaced by GRUB and is doing the same function

Should I be able to enter hibernation on a Vista installation that i
using GRUB to boot

Cheer

I'm having the same issue with OSx86 using the Chameleon boot loader. I
think the problem is that the boot loader requires that the partition
it's installed on be active. This lets me boot Vista, but I think Vista
requires that it's partition be active for hibernation to work. I'm
told there is a way to add Linux entries to the Vista boot loader using
bcdedit, but so far, I can't get it to work.
