laptop it came with xp home 32 bit and now 2 days ago I formatted m
hard drive and got vista 64 bit and now I am thinking would it have bee
a better idea for me to get 32 bit...would performance or anythin
increase would it be better in my case? Also I have arconis true imag
the backup program and I made a backup and created a new partition if
reinstall vista ultimate 32 bit but first format my hard drive th
arconis backup partition and my primary partion will they automaticall
merge? how would i merge them please answer all my questions immediat
help would be greatly appreciated

IMPORTANT: Also I do not seem to have any problems with drivers or m
network or anything. Also by formatting my drive and doing all this won
cause any problems would it

There is no visible difference between 64 and 32 bit versions as long as
all the software you need works. Some older software and device drivers
will not work on 64 bit, but if you haven't found this yet then there is
probably no need to worry.

Not that I see here, same hardware, no difference, except as I said a
few things will not run because they are not programmed for a 64 bit
system. In theory 64 bit should be the way to the future.

If you play games then maybe 32 bit will run more, but if you want games
then consider steampowered.com because everything they do seems to run
fine under 64 bit Vista.

By all means wait for other replies but I am not seeing any real difference.

and by "older software", you mean plenty of stuff compiled as long ago as
2008.

You would want to go with a 64-bit OS if you use 4 Gigs of RAM or more.

If you're not having any problems locating Vista x64 drivers for you
hardware, then you should most defintely consider staying with Vist
x64

Visually, there is no difference between Vista x86 (32-Bit) and Vist
x64, but there are some subtle differences that make Vista x64 th
better choice

- *More Memory.* Depending on which Vista x64 you use, the system ca
support as much as 128GB of memory (Vista x64 Ultimate)
- *Kernel Protection.* All Vista x64 versions include Kernel Patc
Protection, a facility that prevents ALL third-party program
(including anti-virus utilities) from improperly patching or modifyin
the system kernel that could lead to instability
- *Signed Drivers.* All editions of Vista x64 require the use o
digitally signed drivers, another facility that helps to improve th
stability of the system
- *Increased Performance.* Because of improved memory management
both 32-Bit and 64-Bit applications run faster because memory is no
paged to the swap file as often, and multitasking is also vastl
improved
The above only just scratches the surface of why Vista x64 is bette
than it's x86 siblings. But in just about all areas, I can only come t
one conclusion - Vista x64 is vastly superior to Vista x86

The only "gotcha" that exists in Vista x64 (and not in Vista x86) i
that it no longer supports 16-bit applications, which includes 32-bi
programs that still use 16-bit installer routines. These application
will simply fail to run or install. For me, this isn't too much of
problem, because most of those programs where in use on Windows 95/98
and I've long since updated them with newer, more advanced versions

One other bit of trivia that may help you decide is the next release o
Windows in 2010, Windows 7. This will be the last version of Window
that will be relased in both 32 and 64 bit versions. Whatever follow
that (Windows 8), will be released only in x64. So you might as wel
make the change now, so that you're not left behind when the whole worl
makes the switchover from x86 to x64 computing
