If you're not having any problems locating Vista x64 drivers for you
hardware, then you should most defintely consider staying with Vist
x64
Visually, there is no difference between Vista x86 (32-Bit) and Vist
x64, but there are some subtle differences that make Vista x64 th
better choice
- *More Memory.* Depending on which Vista x64 you use, the system ca
support as much as 128GB of memory (Vista x64 Ultimate)
- *Kernel Protection.* All Vista x64 versions include Kernel Patc
Protection, a facility that prevents ALL third-party program
(including anti-virus utilities) from improperly patching or modifyin
the system kernel that could lead to instability
- *Signed Drivers.* All editions of Vista x64 require the use o
digitally signed drivers, another facility that helps to improve th
stability of the system
- *Increased Performance.* Because of improved memory management
both 32-Bit and 64-Bit applications run faster because memory is no
paged to the swap file as often, and multitasking is also vastl
improved
The above only just scratches the surface of why Vista x64 is bette
than it's x86 siblings. But in just about all areas, I can only come t
one conclusion - Vista x64 is vastly superior to Vista x86
The only "gotcha" that exists in Vista x64 (and not in Vista x86) i
that it no longer supports 16-bit applications, which includes 32-bi
programs that still use 16-bit installer routines. These application
will simply fail to run or install. For me, this isn't too much of
problem, because most of those programs where in use on Windows 95/98
and I've long since updated them with newer, more advanced versions
One other bit of trivia that may help you decide is the next release o
Windows in 2010, Windows 7. This will be the last version of Window
that will be relased in both 32 and 64 bit versions. Whatever follow
that (Windows 8), will be released only in x64. So you might as wel
make the change now, so that you're not left behind when the whole worl
makes the switchover from x86 to x64 computing
