I have a brand new dell xps m1330 4gb RAM, Intel Core duo processo
2.5GHZ, 500 gb 5400 rpm HDD, NVIDIA and standard display
I have windows vista ultimate 64bit installed :zip:

The cpu usage always shoots upto 100% just after 5 -10 mins o
operating the system and makes the system performance patchy(lik
playing music, opening even a word document).
I tried to remove all the unnecessary start up programs from msconfig
I disabled windows aero theme and made it classic , but it did not hel
much
The system starts up well sometimes taking only 90 secs to boot up(
used the reboot.vbs to calculate this
I diagnosed the hard disk, did a chkdsk and it showed the disk wa
alright
I ran the defrag but that did not help either
Please suggest if there is anything that I missed that would speed u
the system
I just get a feeling that I wasted all the money I shelled out for
system that wouldn't work. :sa

Please help
:confused

So look at the task manager and see what task is using 100% of the cpu.

It is pretty much divided between all the processes that are operatin
at that time
I find it amazing that the vista ultimate on my PC starts with almos
60 processes
I have selected the maximum number of processors available in th
advanced boot options in the boot section of msconfig, but shows n
difference

I know it sounds weird.... but I observed one thing with my laptop...
whenever I plugin the adapter to charge it slows down and the cpu usage
shoots upto 100... but normally while functioning on battery it is
amazingly speed....

I checked the power settings and made sure the hard disks are not
turned off and also made sure that the performance is set to 100% while
plugged in..
can any gurus on the forum please advise on what to do to make it run
as would a 4gb, 2.5ghz processor would......
thanks

Don't pick a fight with an old man.
If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
