You most likely saw a bad install of the software itself. For using the
system restore feature did you boot from the Windows disk and try the
option for that in the repair tools? That may show the actual points
while the boot option is not dispaying them for some other reason.
The first thing however since you can boot up in safe mode would be to
remove the software to get Windows running normally again and later sort
out the details. You may have something running in the background during
the installation that caused the problem being seen there.
