Vista Ultimate DSP/OEM Won't Finish installing

I took my GW Notebook to the PCC a day after I bought the DSP/OEM Vista
Ultimate,form the PCC and could not install it, after the 1st boot while
after installing Vista IT JUST HANGS w/ a Black screen,and if I do a Hardboot
on the PC, then I get a ENDLESS LOOP, I tried to do the disable WVGA, and
tried the Command Prompt and typing "devmgmt.msc" but after I got into the
device manager and disabled the Video and WVGA, I still couldn't get this to
install, so, I Paid the PCC to try and trouble shoot and install DSP/OEM
Vista Ultimate, and after 2 days and 10 hrs. THEY COULD'NT even install this?
and they charged me 80 bucks for this (the Labor to do this) the funny thing
to all of this, is my GW Notebook is a Vista ready notebook, but they the PCC
repair shop tech told me, that it is NOT, and that I should buy Vista Home
Basic, (Maybe that PCC Tech didn't know anything about Vista other than
putting it on a New Barebone PC, but he did try, so I didn't mind paying what
I owed, even tho he couldn't install Ultimate) but, according to Gateway, I
can run ANY VERSION of Vista, even Gateway doesn't know WHY Ultimate won't
install? so, at this point I'm very reluctant to go out and buy a version of
Vista just to try and install this Ultimate version (talk about throwing good
money away) this is UNREAL....... I will be getting Vista Home Premium from
the Xpress Upgrade I sent in when I bought this notebook back in NOV 2006, do
you think I should just wait for that to arrive, and then just try and
install that, then upgrade with that DSP/OEM Vista Ultimate? maybe it will
work that way? anyone know if this will work? any ideas? I don't have another
rig to test this out on, but, i don't think it's BAD MEDIA, cuz, PCC couldn't
even get there MASTER STORE COPY of Vista Ultimate to install, so, I'm at a
loss here.............

many areas and websites, it seems Windows Ultimate the only way to install it
is with a clean install, using the upgrade option is very difficult, and has
a high failure rate. If you dont need ultimate, get the home premium. I was
getting it for the networking center. But looks like I will go back to
home premium or do a clean install (which I really dont want to do)

Thanks for your adivce Mario, but, Not even a Clean install WORKED, the only
Version of Vista that WORKS on my Gateway MX6447 Notebook is Vista Home
Premium, so looks like I'll be going back to it, but what i wanna know is
this: after I go abck to Vista Home Premium, and do an inplace upgrade to
Ultimate will that even work? if it doesn't, then I bought a VERY EXPENSIVE
DSP/OEM Vista Ultimate COASTER the worthless to me, that I CANNOT RETURN, so,
I'm NOT Very Happy about that right now................Thanks for your reply

What type of failure are you having with the install to Ultimate? You can
do a clean install with a Windows Ultimate Upgrade disk, there are several
ways to do this. Do you own the DVD or did you download it from marketplace?
I had many problems with the marketplace digital locker versions.

This a very long, so, here go's.........I bought a DSP/OEM Vista Ultimate
FULL VERSION, I get that enoying Black screen, atfer the 1st bootup, then
when I try the Shift F10 I can see the Comand Promt, then I type in
devmgmt.msc to get into the device manager, diaable ALL VIDEO and the VGA as
well, then I try to reboot, the I get a windows didn't recover correctly
screen, so I then choose the start windows normaly, then it reboots, then, it
BSOD out and it reboots a number of times, then it just HANGS THERE, and
won't finish the install, Upgrade or a clean install just doesn't matter, it
just won't install, I have RC1 beta & RC2 Beta, and they do the same thing,
none of my Vista DVD will finish the install, Upgrade Adisvor PASSES, Memory
Testing PASSES, Chk/Scandisk PASSES, and I have the lastest Gateway Vista
BIOS, and all of the Vista drivers burned to a CD, so I'm really at a
loss,and just don't konw what else to do, it just seems like, for some
reason, I'm LOCKED OUT of any install of Vista Versions at this point, and
Gateway doesn't have a CLUE as to why this is happening, They want me to wait
untill i get the Gateway Express Vista Home Premium Upgarde in about 3 weeks
when it ships, and said that if OUR VISTA DVD doesn't work , then I suppose
they have to support THIS? so , I don't know what eale to do at this point?

No...Vista didn't come pre-installed, This is a DSP/OEM FUll Version.....The
Problem has been SLOVED it was incompatiable RAM, even tho it worked and gave
no errors in XP MCE 2005, so, I went back to basics,(took out 1GB of the Ram
I bought 2 weeks ago, and replaced that one with the 512MB that shipped with
my Gateway Notebook, VISTA didn't like that RAM, (at least not without one of
the Gateway Samsung one's), so, that's why it didn't Install & Failed , I
called the place I purchased the incompatiable form ,and they were more than
happy to send me the correct ones (Gateway Uses Samsung, Crucial, and Hynix
chips) so, I got an RMA # to return the incompatiable 2GB's and after they
get the old stuff back, They'll Promptly send me out 2 Samsung 2GB's that are
sure to work in my Gateway Notebook, at least I hope they do, anyway got
Vista Ultimate up and running, but, with only 1.5MB of DDR2 RAM, but it seems
to run fine with just that, the 2GB's will be a lot better I'm sure, when I
get them.........so ,All is well, other then a few more features, I can't see
any real differnce between Vista Home Premium & Vista Ultimate?
