Hi,
I just installed Vista Ultimate on my 3rd machine (1 Desktop and 2 Laptops)
and to date... i have yet to bet a full and complete backup of my hard drive
on any one of these 3 machines.
I put in a blank DVD into the internal drive... i click on "Full backup" it
askes if i want to format the dvd, i say "sure" and then it formats and
starts the backup process.
I will get anywhere from 1 to 4 disks into the backup when out of nowhere,
when i press the eject button on the dvd burner... it will not eject. It
just will not open so i can put in the next disk.
If i click "ok" on the pop up, then i get the message that there is not
enough room on the disk, to label and insert the next disk... BUT I CANT as
it will not eject.
The ONLY way to get that disk out is to reboot and of course... the backup
fails.
Can anyone tell me what is going on? I find it hard to believe that this is
user error as it's pretty simplistic.
I can replicate this on 3 different machines... (One is a Dell Core 2 DUO at
2GHz with 2 gigs ram and 8X DL burner... one is a Toshiba A215 AMD T-59 @
1.9Ghz with 2 gig's ram and DL burner and the other is a home build Intel
Quad Q6700 with 4 gigs ram. All machines have SATA drives).
Anyhow... again, any help would sure be appreciated.
On the Toshiba... the first time i tried after installing the OS, doing
updates and putting my programs on it... i got a 2 disk backup and when
finished with disk 2 it said the backup was complete, but i know that was
wrong. I don't think that even windows can backup 30 GIGS onto just 2 DVD's.
But, since i like to have 2 backups... i tried again and then it failed
after disk 3 finished burning... would not eject so that i could put in disk
4.
I have read lots of entries with specific errors and such, but i'm not
getting any errors. I would not consider "label and insert next disk" to be
an error. LOL
Anyhow, i'm 3 for 3pc's where i can not get a complete backup.
I"m hoping someone can direct me to a file or something that needs updating
or that this will be fixed with SP1 due out soon.... and if not... can anyone
reccommend a 3rd party application where i can backup the entire partition?
I've used Ghost 11 (DOS) and Ghost 12 (WIndows) but those programs are
sooooo slow it's not even funny as they won't recognize an external burner.
Thanks much,
Terster
