vista ultimate will not start in normal mode

i have vista ultimate sp1 installed all has been fine intill the last couple
of weeks in that vista has been as slow as a wet week in july. just today the
system shut itself down due to some sort of error since then vista will not
start in normal mode. i have been able to start it in safe mode with
directory recovery and network support, and have run all sorts of tests, all
previous restore points have somehow disappeared so cant do a restore to last
good start. no virus' or malware are detected at this stage.
can anyone offer any suggestions?

vista is buggy and "pi**'s"
me off on occasion.

between it's black screens
and other crap that
microsoft should patch
up,

it is hard to figure out
a problems such as
yours.

a suggestion might be
to disconnect all the
peripherals and the
network connection.

then while in safe mode
try initiating a clean
boot.

What is the error? Try installing SP2
