Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and desperately seeking help with Microsoft
Windows Vista Ultimate version 64 bit that I just bought two days ago
and I haven't enjoyed 1 complete hour working effectively on that
operating system.
I was using WinXP PERFECTLY before I install Vista, First, here are my
PC specs:
1 PSU Ace 580 WW
AMD Athlon 64 4200+ X2
Gigabyte M59SLI-S5 AM2 Socket
4x512 MB (2 Gigs) Kingston RAM DDR2
1 Maxtor 120 Gigs ATA
1 Hitachi 160 Gigs Sata 2
1 Western Digital 320 Gigs Sata 2 (Just bought it with Vista cus I
didn't have enough space)
1 Nvidia Geforce 7950 GX2 XXX
My Mobo has a sticker that says "Vista Ready" and ofcourse I knew my
GPU is supported by Vista, so thought why not upgrading, and since I
didn't have enough space I bought the WD Harddrive.
Updated latest Bios version for the mobo and there I begun the Vista
setup.
First time setup, On the Western Digital Harddrive (Failure, freeze
when:
1.The setup goes perfect until it reaches the Completeing
Installation... and you know the three dots fade in and fade out, the
mouse is moving, but i left it for like 2 hours but the progress bar is
not moving anywhere, and the red light for the harddrive is ON (meaning
the harddrive is working) but actually there is no progress, after 2
hours, I decided to restart..
Second time setup, On Western too (success)
The setup continues the part it was failing at and Vista starts, no
hardware conflicts, started windows updates, and i get a failure
downloading updates, gave me an error code, did my research, found out
that BITS services needs to be up, I had bit problems turning it on,
was total mess, so then I re-installed again.
Third time setup, On western too (success)
Setup fine, Vista fine, Updates downloading, installed 8/9 and when it
came to the 9th update (was an update for 64 bit processors) <- Failed
to install, While I was copying things from my old Hitach harddrive to
the Western harddrive, Data about 2 gigs, it randomly hangs, mouse
moving, but window freezing, then i click start button, works for a
couple of mins, then hangs, tried again several times, then I thought
of a harddrive problem So,
I thought about freeing up some space on my old harddrive and
installing Vista on it, done that, ran well, then was installing
Alcohol then I got on boot failure to load SPTD.SYS , Then I loaded my
WinXP which was installed on one of the old harddrives, when i was
trying to copy stuff from the old harddrive to the new harddrive, I
used to get Windows Write Delayed failure balloon popup on XP,
So i decided its a harddrive problem,
Ran chkdisk, found some bad blocks, fixed it, ran a couple of other
apps, fixed some stuff, then I tried re-copying some stuff, still
didn't work, Went back to the company I bought the harddrive from,
Replaced the harddrive with a new one, tried re-installing, I still get
random freezes while doing anything, copying files, running updates,
listening to music on windows media player..hangs, freezes all the
time...
Windows Event Viewer sucks .. doesn't help much...
Can anyone help diagnose my problem please?
Thanks
