Hey,

I just upgraded my Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to Vista Ultimate
Ed. (RTM). The upgrade went very well and with the exception of a few minor
tweaks that I had to make, Vista is working great.

However, I just tried to connect to my Xbox 360 and I can't get it to work.
It was connected fine before the upgrade, and now when I go through the setup
process I get a screen that gives me a generic "Configuration Error" screen.
Here is the process:

- Go into Media Center on Vista Ultimate
- Go to Tasks -> Add Extender
- Enter my Xbox 360 serial number, select the default options on the next
two screens.
- I get to the configuration screen where it shows all of the configuration
tasks, and after about 3 seconds I get a a new "Configuration Error" screen.

Configuration Error
An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this
extender.

I checked the event logs and here is what is happening when I try to connect
to the 360:

Information 6:09:52 PM:
Aaron started Windows Media Center Extender setup with the following
options: Firewall settings (0,0,1,1) Power management (1) Media settings (1)

Error 6:09:56PM:
Windows Media Center Extender setup cannot configure the Windows Media
Center PC for use with the Extender. Error code: -114.

I have tried the following:

-Disabling UAC
-Disabling Windows Firewall
-Disabling OneCare (which I have installed.)

Nothing seems to work and I constantly get the error. I DO NOT want to
reformat and re-isntall, I just don't have the time.

Please help, this is VERY FRUSTRATING... THANKS!

Did you find an answer to this one?
I have just purchased a new PC with Home Premium 64 bit and getting the
same error.
Like you I also have Live OneCare installed.
I have shared media in Media Player 11 and the XBOX 360 can see it fine
and display pictures etc from my PC.
The XBOX is also able to access the internet via the Router and connect
to XBOX Live without an issue.
The XBOX 360 shows up on the Network Map without a problem.
Each time I turn the XBOX on Vista identifies it as a new Extender on
the Network and asks if I would like to install it. I gather the 8 digit
code from the XBOX and type it in as requested but then get this exact
same error message:
Configuration Error
An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with
this extender.
If anyone can assist...

I am having the same problem. To test the connection between the I
enabled media sharing in the network setup. I can select my PC as a
music source on the 360 under Dash Board/Media/Music/Change Music Source
and it streams music just fine. The issue is specific to Media Center
itself.

To make this more confusing this computer was previously connected to
the same 360. I have since installed a new HDD, reinstalled windows,
followed all the instructions to reconnect to the 360, but get that same
error described above.

You just need to remove the Media Center Extender certificate first.

To remove the certificate, follow these steps:

ENTER.
2. On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
3. Click Certificates, and then click Add.
4. Select Computer account, and then click Next.
5. Select Local computer, and then click Finish.
6. Click OK.
7. In the Navigation Pane under Console Root, expand Certificates,
expand Personal, and then click Certificates.
8. Right-click Microsoft Windows Media Center Extender Host, and then
click Delete.
After you remove the certificate, uninstall the Extender, and then
reinstall the Extender. Follow these steps:
1. Start Windows Media Center.
2. Click Tasks, and then click Settings.
3. Click Extender, and then select the Xbox 360 console.
4. Click Uninstall.
5. After the uninstall process is complete, click Extender again, and
then click Configure.
6. When you are prompted for the setup key, follow these steps: a. On
the Xbox 360 Media Remote, press the Y button.
b. Press the Windows Media Center Start button.
c. Note the eight-digit setup key.

7. Return to the computer, and then enter the setup key.
8. Complete the Extender setup.
