Vista Unmute doesn't stay unmuted

I I'm running a Macromedia application with sound. I didn't get sound so
alt/tab to Volume Mixer, locate the icon in the mixer, unmute it and I begin
hearing the sound from the application. As soon as I go back to work with
the application Vista mutes my application! I can't get the unmute to stick.
What's up? This is driving me nuts!

Maybe something else is setting it to mute!
