vista ****** up?

i can't open the desktop-change thing, or other windows items like the
control pannel and the icon on top of the "start" menu. when i try to do
that, my pc frezzes and just stops running the programs. oh, and by the way,
windows defender freaks out, and CAN'T get updates

Go into Administrative Tools>Services and make sure
"Software Licensing" is started. Set it to "Automatic".

You might have to use "services.msc" from the Run box
or command prompt. If you can access the search box,
you can also just type it in there.
