I cannot find a way to get Works8.msi to work. It keeps saying I don't have
it but why wouldn't I when it's a brand new machine purchased 3 weeks ago?
What should I do to get the update? Help!

Error Code: 0x8024002D - means - a full-file patch failed because the source
was required

Heather, look for the Works CD/s that came with your computer. Place the CD
in the installation drive and then try the update again.

Problem is, a lot of Dell computers don't come with Works 8 CD's from the
factory any more.

Then I guess it's up to the users to complain to Dell as Dell is the supplier
of the OS and the software that comes pre-installed and they are the ones who
are responsbile for providing users with a way of restoring/reinstalling the
software etc

Heather,

the answer is rather simple. If you do not have Works Installed, just
'ignore' the update.

1) Navigate to the Updates page in the configuration of Windows Vista.
2) Open the available updates list.
3) Right click the Works 8 Update and select 'Hide Update' in the context
menu.

This should move the update to the list of ignored updates. I have several
languages in the ignore list myself. The never bother me at all! They're
ignored... :-)

I you do have Works installed, best try to re-install the Works application
by using the installation, probably on a compact disc.

I have your answer. Same problem here. they install the software OEM and
these days don't include cd's. I contacted the seller (Staples in my case) to
see if they had the aforementioned cd's. They in turn sent me to the
manufacturer (Acer in my case). Give them a call up and read off your serial
number on your store-bought notebook. After answering some questions tell
them you need the install disks. When you are attempting to install the
update and it doesn't work it should give you a message saying where it is
currently looking for it. It might say it was on a network and the field
below it should say something like c:\acerSW\install\disk2
Just read off that to the tech support of your manufacturer and they'll
probably say something like, "when you first purchased yoursystem it asked
you to provide a blank cd". Ignore them, I was never asked during my 3 hour
installation and I'm a tech geek. Anyways explain to them that it didn't, and
that it should still be under warranty. Then they'll send you out your
required disk in the mail via FedEx. You should get it anywhere in North
America in approximately 3 days. Once you receive simply go through steps as
usual and next time you get that error message just pop in your cd and you're
off!
you could go to ignore as one user mentioned, but i wouldn't suggest it.
Updates are there for a reason and unless it's a language pac k (in a
language you don't speak fluently) you may run into issues down the road.
Besides brand new computer you should be getting all the neccessary updates
for free (or at least for a few months).
Cheers

I don't have a Works 8 CD because I have Works 9 on my laptop. So can I
safely ignore the Works 8 update?

Heather, I have Works 8.5 pre- installed on my computer a year ago. (I do not
have a CD ROM for this programme!)
Today I tried to install Works 8.MSI ( KB955428). It also failed showing
error message 8024002d. Before the message during the installation of the
update I also had a window that said:- the feature you are trying to use is
on a network resource that is unavailable. Try again or enter an alternative
path to a foldercontaining the installation package " Works8.msi" in the box
below. I'm old but not too old! So could someone please explain what I
should do next?

I have the same problem and it's an Acer as well but they will not send me
the disk and tell me it's not a full copy that's it's a trial but it's never
said anything about only being able to try it or when my "time" would be up.
I don't know what to do
