Vista update failed

I'm NOT very pleased with Vista and MS right now :-(

tried to help my friend installing SP1 on her Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo
laptop (with all to litte RAM, should be allowed sold with Vista).

First time it took an hour. The first of the 3 upgrade steps just
blinked by, and the other two took about 1/2 hour. But when it was
finished it said something went wrong and uninstalled everything.

Error code: 0x800F0826

Tried again after checking Windows Update as told by the explaination
for the the error message. And this time it took even more time.

The 3 steps now took for ever each. Over 4 hour totally.
And then the last "Installing updates..." before booting...
AND again it decides to uninstall everything again (1 hour more).

Error code: 0x800F0826

What on earth is going on?
What kind of rotten update is this?
Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

1. Add more RAM - contact manufaturer/retailer who sold computer.

2. Windows Update error 800f0826

Indicates a previous update has failed to install and thus preventing further
installations of updates. Affects only Windows updates.

Open Windows Update and review your history.

Locate the update/s that have failed to install (you can view further information about
the failed update/s by double-clicking the update )

If the information reveals 800f0826 move onto the next one until you get the update that
displays a different error code to 800f0826.

Once you have located the update that has failed and caused the problem, then that needs
to be fixed before you can install the other updates.

This stupid computer is sold with so little RAM.
And there is hardly room for more.
Neither does she have the money.

Souldn't be legal to sell such configurations :-(

But we have checked previous updates.
No pending updates. All critical installed.
The first time this was true, but not 2nd.

Additionally, Windows update will not offer Windows Vista SP1 to
Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo LA 1703 Notebooks that have a BIOS release date
of March 14, 2008 or earlier. This corresponds to Bios Revision
numbers 8.6T1-0023-M007 or earlier. This block reflects an incorrect
power management setting that will be resolved in an updated BIOS
