vista update - help please

Hi .. In the last couple of days I purchased a new computer which has Vista
Home Basic installed.

However it wont to updates for me .. wont even search for them let alone
download etc.

When I tell it to search for updates I get the error message "Windows could
not search for updates" error found: code 8024D00E

A search of the error messages on microsoft help site has not found this
error message.

Can someone give me an idea on what the problem is?
