Yes I have the same problem with XP, Vista and 2008. The one common feature
is that my network drives are very busy. There is no reason for this, unless
the update / installer is choosing to use the Network dirves instead of the
local hard disks. I have a gigabit network, but this is still much slower
than a local hard drive.
If I down load the updates and then disconect the network before rebooting,
everything works normally.
I suspect that microsoft has changed something, which makes the installer
choose to put its working files on the netwrk drives rather than the local
hard drives. Maybe they go for the most free space?
However, disconnecting the network is bad news for Download on demand
installers. They won't be able to find the files they need.
I would welcome a better solution, as I cannot afford to have my server
unavailable all day.
