That's something different - can't help you but would be interested in any responses you
get from MS -

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (All Languages)
Unlimited installation and compatibility support is available at no charge until March 18,
2009.
"If your Microsoft product was already installed on your computer when you purchased it,
contact your computer manufacturer to see if no-charge support is available to you.
Support for preinstalled products is available from Microsoft for a fee. Some issues may
require more Advanced support for which there is a charge."

TaurArian, that worrisome-sounding policy has been clarified by Brandon
LeBlanc [MSFT] in the Comments section of
http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/wi...ws-update.aspx
as follows:

<QP>
We are offering free-of-charge support to anyone who is having issues
installing Windows Vista SP1 - even folks...who may be using a OEM copy of
Windows Vista that came with their HP laptop.

Again, anyone can get free support for installation issues of SP1 by going
to the following URL and choosing "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (All
Languages)": http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...px?gprid=11732
</QP>
