Vista Updates do not install

I am running Vista Business 32-bit. The problem has been occurring since I
bought a new Dell with the OS already installed in 07-2007. I have a high
pain threashold so I've just shrugged it off until now, when I'm anxious to
get SP1.

I have Windows Update configured to install updates automatically. I often
see a message that Windows cannot check for updates. When i open Windows
Update it shows that there are updates waiting to be installed (always 36
updates). Viewing Update History shows a long list of failed updates with
dates back to 7-10-2007. For almost all of the faileed updates, when I
double-click on the update title in the update history it shows error code
80071A91. I have tried the suggestions listed in the get help. I have
disabled my antivirus, AVG free edition, and configured the ose service to
start automatically. Still have the same problem.

Any other suggestions?

What anti-virus or "internet security" free-trialware came preinstalled on
the machine when you purchased it (e.g., Norton Internet Security; McAfee
VirusScan)?
