Vista Updates Download but dont install

just got a new system with windows vista and the 6 offered updates download
and seem to install. After reboot they configure and later i get a mssg
saying they didnt install, over and over. I've tried setting all RPC to
automatic and on started as well as windows installer to no avail. Can anyone
help who's worked thru this problem?
