Vista Home Premium - Gateway Laptop MT3708

Failed updates:
KB935807 (800F0826)
KB929916 (800F0826)
KB933928 (80004005)

According to Windows Help and Support, the third update/error is the one
causing the problems. I cannot find any KB articles relating to this error
code. Please tell me what is going on and help me to put these updates on my
computer. Thank you.

That error message does not apply to this problem for two reasons:

1. None of my usernames contain double-byte characters, and they all have
administrative access.

2. I have already downloaded several other updates using Windows/Microsoft
Update.

Thank you for your advice, but, apparently, it does not apply to my situation.

Perhaps a third-party backup utility or an antivirus program is interferring with the
update process.

I have also the same error 80004005:
1. I have set up a new user according to your instructions
2. Next I have disable my firewall (zonealarm security suite) and tried again
It was the 5th time the Vista SP1 update was reverted.
Not so happy about it, because I keep having blue screens because of some
malfunction in vista wireless drive which should be solved after instalation
of SP1.
My laptop is a Sony Vaio bought 6 months ago with Vista pre-installed.
Thanks

You need to uninstall Zone Alarm and ensure that *all* files and
services of it are no longer present. Suggest you disconnect the system
from any network or internet connection *prior* to uninstalling ZA.
Make sure you *enable* the native Windows firewall prior to reconnecting
the system.

Since you haven't posted the Version of ZA that is installed, suggest
you consult their forums or knowledge base in order to learn how to
completely remove ZA from the system:

Only this week it was possible for me to finish testing your sugestion.
I uninstalled zonealarm (ZAISS 7) according to instruction and ensure all
files and registry lines related were deleted.
The problem remains - after reaching 100% of step 3/3 the update to SP1
reverts.
What can I do - return the pc to store, contact MS support ?
Let me also add I have another laptop with ZAISS 7 installed and update was
completed with no problem. So problem is not with ZAISS.
I really would appreciate your suggestion.

[This is an example of the confusion that can ensue when you post a "Me,
too!" reply to someone else's thread!]

In no certain order:

Error message when you try to install Microsoft Update on a Windows
Vista-based computer: "Could not install Microsoft Update on the computer"
[0x80004005]
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933528

See the MORE INFORMATION section of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358

Error message when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1:
"Installation was not successful" or "An internal error occurred while
installing the service pack"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista
