Vista updates have stopped

We have two computers on an ethernet network, both running Vista
Ultimate.

Until recently, updates took place ok on both machines.

I went into the hospital over a month ago for surgery, ten days there
and several weeks at home before I even felt up to turning my machine
on.

Now I do not get updates on my machine, even though my daughters
machine keeps getting updates and has all along.

Windows Update in Control Panel says it checks every morning and there
are no updates available.

When I do a manual update check I get the same response.

Why is this and how do I fix it?

Thanks

WLW

have you considered that your pc might be up to date and there are no
updates available

Last night, after posting the original message, I did a manual check
for updates and found the monthly updates, 7 or 9, I forgot. They
downloaded and installed ok.

But there was no prior notification like I used to get, so something
has changed.
