I preparation for a clean install of Vista Home Premium from within my
WinXPSP2 PC, I ran the above and got 3 device querys as under. Any guidance?

1. AcerLAN ALN-201 PCI Ethernet Adaptor (yeah I KNOW it's old, but - til now
- it works!) "No Compatability Data"
2. Intel System Management Bios Driver "No Compatability data"
3. Patin Coufin (VSO) Software "no compatability data". This driver sits in
c:\windows\system32\pcoufin.sys

PowerDVD, Microsoft Intellipoint v5.5 (came with a brand new MS Wireless
Laser 5000 mouse I JUST bought!) and MSN Exporer and MSMessenger are listed
as software that might have minor compatability issues (3 MSoft programs!!!)
whereas other stuff I have like Roxio EasyCdCreator V5, DVD Shrink and
Audiograbber - all really OLD products that I DO use) are not listed as
'worrisome". CAN THAT be right??

I am running an XPPro SP2 2.8Celeron with 2.75g RAM.

Any thoughts?

Rgds

Hi Rod,

> Any thoughts?

Yes, don't upgrade without checking on those programs. The upgrade advisor
can only tell you when it knows there is an issue, it can't identify
anything that's not within its programming parameters.

This indicates that it doesn't know anything about these devices. Check with
the manufacturer of each for compatibility and device drivers.

Yes, even Microsoft has to update their software to be compatible. Make sure
each are at the highest available release version.

Again, it's likely that it knows nothing of these programs as they may be
older versions. I know that Roxio's software uses device drivers, so you
want to be absolutely sure to use the latest version (meaning you'll likely
need to pay for an upgrade). Possible the same goes for DVD Shrink.
Otherwise, they may work in compatibility mode or even just in a normal
operating environment. The best source of information is from the software
vendor on these.

Which should be sufficient, just make sure there is lots of free drive space
to accomadate the installation.
