Vista USB stops working at boot up

Here's my sorry tale. I got a O&O bluecon utility CD through the post and
tried it out. Now I am trying to find a way to not have to rebuild my Vista
PC!!

I have Vista Ultimate and it has worked well for several months. I got this
CD through the post and tried it out. It's not much cop to be honest - looks
like ropey software to me - not finished (v7) and it's quite pricey as well,
about £500.

Anyway, it obviously did something to PC because now when I boot up, either
immediately Windows appears or at some point soon after log on (or anywhere
between at random) the USB keyboard and mouse just stop working. There are no
issues with the hardware, running utility software on same PC to recover data
shows both work perfectly - it is Windows Vista that is stopping the devices
working. I can't log on and do anything as it cuts out very quickly and
that's it - a reboot.

Using Bluecon I can get onto the system and fiddle with files if necc, it's
just I don't know which one to fiddle with.

Any ideas how to restore usb functionality/fix this problem?

My advice, don't buy O&O Bluecon - if it can do this to my computer, there
is no way I would trust it on my customers or a server. It only works
intermittently as well and in my opinion is an unfinished product not worth
anywhere near the asking price (mine's a months free trial).

If all else fails, I'll be rebuilding the PC which is a shame as it's a
working Vista PC which I believe is quite rare.

Cheers

I would guess the software is setting the "Power Management" on the USB.
Device Manager, USB Root Hub devices, Properties, Power Management tab.

Hello,

Thank you for your post.

According to your description, my understanding is that you have installed
O&O Blue Con utility on your Vista machine. After that, your USB keyboard
and mouse stopped working when Windows is started. If there is any
misunderstanding, please let me know.

This issue might be caused by some compatibility issue of the O&O Blue Con
utility with Windows Vista. Please try the following steps to fix the issue
first.

1. If you have already made a restore point before, please follow the below
KB article to perform a system restore to see whether we can restore the
system to the previous working state. After that, please check whether the
issue still exists.

940765 How to use System Restore to log on to Windows Vista
when you lose access to an account
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;940765

2. If this problem continues, please try to boot the machine in safe mode.
And then please check whether the issue occurs in safe mode. If not, please
try to uninstall the software in safe mode. In Safe Mode, most third party
services and drivers are not loaded. In this way, we can isolate third
party service or driver's interruption.

3. If the issue no longer occurs after you uninstall the software, please
try to install the following cumulative update rollup for USB core
components in Windows Vista.
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=k...41600&x=9&y=14

Moreover, as this issue is very likely to be a third-party compatibility
issue of the O&O Blue Con utility with Windows Vista, I strongly recommend
you contact to the software manufacturers for more information. Please
verify with them whether this is a known issue and whether there are any
solutions to resolve it.

Thanks.
