Vista user constantly locked out from mapped drives and e-mail

We had to give a field person a laptop quickly before he traveled to a site.
Since Vista is the only option available at the retail level(thanks for that
Microsoft)he now has the only Vista(home)machine in our environment. Since he
could not be joined to the domain I treated this as just another outside user
with XP, in that I put mapped drives, setup e-mail and installed a VPN
connection on the machine. All XP users have no problems, the Vista user is
fine for a while but then the account gets locked out. This will happen at
the office or from his home. I can unlock his account and he is good for a
while again. He can log onto an XP machine, whether in the domain or not, and
not have this problem. Is there a security setting on Vista that is doing
this? Any help would be appreciated.

When the "Home" machine tries to attach to the map drive it will use the
local credentials up to I think 10 times.
If your lockout is set for less then this it will lock his account. If you
had "Business" and had joined it to the domain so the user name and password
matched you would not have this problem.

This looks like it may be the reason. This morning I had changed our lock out
from 5 to 20 to see if the problem would be delayed or disappear and since
then he has not had a problem. Is this unique to Vista(10 tries that is)in
general or just Vista Home since my home PC(XP Pro) is not part of the domain
and I have never experienced this problem?
