Vista uxtheme patch crash

OS: Windows Vista Business
My computer crashed after trying to install a uxtheme patch from Softpedia
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...ws-Vista.shtml
I followed the instructions listed there, then rebooted. When I rebooted, I
got a message that said that uxtheme was "either not designed for Windows or
it contains an error". The error came up perhaps twenty times (I clicked the
Okay button, and it came up again) and finally I got to the logon screen. It
came up more, and then I entered my password and the screen said "logging on"
or something similar (I only installed Vista yesterday, I don't know) and
then the screen went black with the cursor only. ctrl-shift-esc brinds up the
error, but the top bar says "tskmgr- Bad Image". I can NOT get on to get my
product ID thing, so I can't get a chat without paying. The computer will not
work in safe mode, either. I need to:
-Get to system32
-Delete the patched versions
-Give to old ones the .dll extension again

or get the product ID and start a chat with a MSFT person.

Perhaps. I had a ton of files, but they are all backed up on an external
hard drive. I wrote down a list of my programs, so no problems there. On only
a 40gig hdd, it may be better to start fresh.
PS- I like the disclaimer :-)

40gb is a little small nowadays...maybe you should take the opportunity to
get larger..

as for the disclaimer...at times I am too blunt..if I am wrong I will admit
it but I was getting
tired of people posting replies just to argue..

40 gigs is small, but I have a big external that I use. I booted from the
Vista disk, clicked repair, and was able to use a restore point. Thanks for
the help anyway!

If you have an actual Vista disk and not a recovery disk (a la Dell, HP,
etc), boot from the disk and go to the repair options and run System
Restore from there (assuming you made a restore point before attempting
the patch). If it is a recovery disk you can get the Vista Recovery disk
from here,

'Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download — The NeoSmart Files'

BTW if you have SP1 installed then there is a very good reason that
that patch fubar'ed Windows on you, that patch is for pre-SP1 Vista. If
you want to try again (and it does work) you can find the SP1 version
here,

'Patched UxTheme Files for Windows Vista SP1 - WinMatrix'
