The MS page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ns/choose.mspx
shows some features and which version of Vista is recommended. Is this actually a recommendation
or does the check mark indicate the ONLY version that will run that feature?

I have a cheapo machine with Vista Home Basic installed. The featues I would be interested in are:

Backup - according to the chart Home Basic is not included. However, I did find Backup & Restore
and did a small backup to a CD

Burning DVD - according to the chart, Home Premium & Ultimate do this job. I burned that backup
to a CD but have not tried to burn a DVD.

Fax & Scan - according to the chart, Business and Ultimate do this job. I have not tested this on
my Home Basic.

Earl

The check marks show which versions have those features. No check mark,
no feature.

So, what am I misinterpreting, if Backup is not checked for Home Basic,
thus I was able to do a backup?

Ad hoc backup as opposed to image-based or scheduled backup?
