What is it - a costly upgrade or a service pack, which would have to be
free otherwise?

General answer - no.

But imagine now, I painted your house 3 years ago, but a few weeks later
the paint started to flake off, your old fridge - compatible with the
old painting stopped working immediately and your front door started to
question you every time you come home after a beer with your friends?

Software doesn't wear out, moron, like paint exposed to the elements.
Try another analogy.

What Vladimir was saying has nothing to do with painting your house, he was
merely describing Windows 7 as an SP3 to WinVista and hence it should be
free, don't you agree?
If you are so eager to pay for it, I can't blame Microsoft for taking
advantage. You see now what you got us into?

In the old days, you had to pay a monthly lease (on large systems) fo
software. And that you had to pay forever. In turn, that paid for th
development cost of the enhancements
Now you pay a one time charge license fee - which is rather modest,
think. How would a company like MS survive if they made eterna
enhancements without collecting some new money from time to time
E.g. Vista is said to have 55 million lines of code. The cost per lin
of code is appr. $1000. Make the calculation. I don't know how man
lines of code have been added/changed for Win7 over Vista. But I am sur
it is a few million (that did cost a few billion)
I am sure you would not like if your employer told you that he wil
give you full pay for the first year only, but for the following 2
years you will have to work for free

Sounds reasonable. What would happen to MicroSoft's profits if they do
their job properly the first time in 2007...

I would not like it at all. Especially, if I would be doing good
whatever I am doing. Does that mean that the worst enemy of MicroSoft
are themselves with reasonably well working Windows XP and Office 2003?
Vista is a fiasco comparing to XP, so now they have to produce
"something" like Vista 7 in order to kick start that cash flow again?

Well you are perfectly free to ditch Windows - there are several
alternatives, some of which are free....
