Hey Ugly,
Seems a few people are having a problem with KB935807. The problem seems specific to the way it is handled by the update manager. Try the others without it, or even one by one. Then turn automatic updates off, do your file cleaning, and do a manual download following this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...DisplayLang=en It worked for me. Do not use the updates website, as that will simply trigger your update manager. I turned off Windows Update and downloaded and installed each update manually
from the MS Download Center. It seemed to work. When I checked my Update History it listed all six updates as being successfully installed, unlike previously when using Windows Update. However, when I checked Installed Updates, only that one update, like before - the Junk E-mail one - was listed as installed. And soon after, Windows Update, turned back on automatically on reboot, alerted me of needing those six updates... again. :-? Okay, I managed to get two updates installed properly - Security Update for
Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB929916) and Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [July 2007] (KB905866). These are actually installed, and are no longer on the Windows Update install list that pops up. Unfortunately, I still can't get Vista Security Update KB935807 and Vista Updates KB933928, KB935280 and KB937077 to install. How did I get the other two installed? Well, with the first one - the Sec Update for .NET 2 - I was pointed to the idea of *un*installing .NET 1.1. However, I could not find that on my system. But, I remembered something about .NET 3 in the Windows Features area of the Control Panel's Programs and Features thingamabob. I looked in there and saw that no Windows Features were actually turned on, including .NET 3. I clicked the unexpanded box of .NET 3, which was then filled with a square, rather than a checkmark. I expanded .NET 3 and found that only XPS Viewer was checked. Neither the Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation, nor the non-HTTP Activation were checked. I left them unchecked and then did a Windows Update install of KB929916 by itself... and it stuck! :-) I then did a Update install of KB905866 by itself and it stuck! :-D Two down, but I could not get the other four updates installed, either seperately with Windows Update, or by downloading the updates and trying to install them seperately with Windows Update turned off. And with all the SoftwareDistribution renaming and deleting and stuff. No luck! I was hopeful that the three regular Updates would at least install. I hold little hope for the Security Update. Well, at least I achieved something. My own layman's opinion is that Windows Update itself is "broken" in regards to basic Updates and Security Updates. Since some others do not seem to have a problem with the basic Updates, I can't say there's anything wrong with them specifically, but that dang KB935807 Security Update is likely broken as well. Some people may have been able to get it installed by various means, but even so, if everyone can't get a simple Security Update installed, then something's wrong on Microsoft's (rear)end. Almost any other product (in any product category) on the general markets would be considered faulty, and either returned for replacement or refund, or recalled. Why is Vista any diffferent? Because Microsoft knows they have a VERY strong hold on their specific market. This is also why MS has seemingly forgot about the concept of user-friendly programs. If I was really as stubborn as I sometimes sound, I would demand a reimbursement from Microsoft for putting out an unfinished and faulty product. And don't say that operating systems are different than anything else. Sure, improvements and the odd bug fix I can understand, but what MS gives us should not be accepted by the general consumer base. MS must surely be breaking consumer product standards - held quite strictly in other markets - with what they give us. Vista is like a hammer bought at Dollarama. One strike of the nail and the head is bent. (Something experienced by my sister. :-) Vista should be the type of hammer you buy from Sears - a Mastercraft hammer - based on how much work is *seemingly* put into it, how much of the market it keeps, and how much it costs. I would not pay more than a dollar for a Dollarama hammer. *rant over* Anyhoo...
