Vista Windows Easy Transfer and Outlook

I bought a new Vista laptop about 3 months ago and have only got around
to transferring stuff from my old XP pc just now. I decided to use
Windows Easy Transfer and for the most part it was easy except for
Outlook.

It seems to have replaced my existing Outlook 2003 OST files with those
from my old pc (also Outlook 2003) - does this mean that I have lost the
last 3 months of emails or is the file I am missing been transferred
somewhere that I can't see anymore. When I try to access local settings
the UAC tells me that I don't have permission?

Is there someone out there who can help me please?

I don't know anything about the transfer tool but you can import the mail
from your old pst file if you want. Go to file>>import/export and follow the
prompts. You should copy your old pst file to a new location manually before
trying this.

Move the Outlook.pst file to your new computer under Documents for easy
backup. Open Outloook, choose Open> Outlook Data File and follow directions.
Do Not IMPORT.

NEVER advise anyone to use the import/export function to transfer data from
one Outlook to another.
Why not?
(Courtesy of Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook])

Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a ghost
PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise
people to import a native file into Outlook.

I have never had problems importing a pst file. That's how our IT group does
it. Glad to hear there is an alternative method.

Well you have been VERY lucky. And BTW, as a retired Systems Accountant, I
don't go a bundle on IT Dept's "expertise" - in ANY organisation. A lot of
them don't know half what they should...

I appreciate the info on this thread, but it doesn't sound like th
question has actually been answered. I have the same problem

On my old laptop (XP SP2) I was using Outlook 2003. Got my new lapto
(Vista Home Premium SP1) about a month ago and started using Outloo
(still 2003) on that. I just decided to use Easy Transfer to get m
info off my old laptop. After the transfer, when I open up Outlook o
my new laptop, I only see the messages from my old laptop, ending abou
a month ago . Have I lost the last month of emails? I alread
know I was foolish for not backing them up before doing the transfer.

In Outlook I went to File>Open>Outlook Data File to see if there wer
any extra pst files. There was "Outlook" and "Outlook1". "Outlook
seems to only have the files from the old computer, and "Outlook1" ha
those plus the ones I've received in the last few minutes, but not th
intervening month

Does anyone know how to restore the emails from the last month? Thank
in advance for your help
