Waiting for SP1 for Vista...

Vista Windows Mail and News Reader need desperately a FIX...
I was forced, recently, to buy Win XP SP2c OEM to keep me going normally
as an alternative to Vista Ultimate, which is very slow. As SP1 for Vista
is expected in 2008. - Is Microsoft considering any interim "FIX" for
present "issues" of Vista?

Unless you tell us what your "issues" are, a "fix" is somewhere between
unlikely and impossible.

As I said below, generally speaking "Vista Ultimate is very slow."
Particularly "Vista Windows Mail and News Reader " are very slow,
comparing with Win XP and Win 2K. I went a bit further and
installed on identical two PCs, identical software compatible
with Win XP and on other one compatible with Vista. There is
a noticeable difference in working speed of two different OS,
on two identical PCs.

Win XP is undoubtedly much faster in working of Office XP,
and internet browsing. Not to mention Adobe PM6 -
Corel 12 and so on. Of course all available patches and
updates were implemented accordingly.

Go to here to fix Mail being slow..

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72...mail-slow.html

For the record, Vista SP1 will be nothing like XP SP2 which was a major code
rewrite. However, Vista updates are fixing problems as they are found rather
than wait for SP1. Ensure that you install updates as they appear. Check
here or Vista forums now and again to see what the latest state of play is.
And please, if you have a problem, don't just say 'I've got a problem'.
Outline is clearly and concisely. Somebody here will help you..

Vista SP1 will essentially be a rollup.

Really? I thought Redmond was going to fix the slow transfers from one
partition to another and from one hard disk to an external hard disk. I
guess they figure all their users have the time to waste waiting for the
transfers.

ah... I read your reply to Richard..

Indeed you are saying that VISTA is SLOW!
This is true of course. You are correct.

Good.. you are NOT an alien...

I take back my insults and I am reserving them for other Vistaboys :-)

Windows Mail is horrible. The "fix" for it will probably be
its abandonment by Microsoft in favor of Windows Live Mail (WLM)
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

If you download it and try it out, it will not overwrite
Windows Mail, it will still be there. It will replace the
mail shortcuts.

I cannot imagine Microsoft continuing development on
two free email programs.... it just doesn't make sense.
I expect you to see only security and junkmail updates
for Windows Live mail. There will be no more development
for Outlook Express, either. A lead developer has said as much.

If you have a hotmail account, the new WLM allows you to
get that email for free, also.

I still find Windows Live Mail lacking. It's horribly slow with
newsgroups. Especially, if you subscribe to several and those
are busy groups with a lot of posts. I use Outlook for email,
so WLM email functions don't concern me. But, the newsgroup
performance is terrible.

I use Thunderbird now. It's an email client and newsgroup reader.
I find it far superior to Windows Mail or WLM for reading newsgroups.
