Vista Windows Update Questions

Q-1: I know Vista makes viewing installed updates much easier than in XP. But
there still is value in having and using a utility like QFECheck.exe to send
output to a file for reporting or scripting purposes. Is there a QFECheck.exe
version for Vista? If one is currently not available, is there (or will there
be) an expected release date for one?

Q-2: I see that Vista Control Panel\Windows Update has an option to "Restore
Hidden Updates". What I do not see is a way for users to hide unwanted
updates like the 15 unneeded Vista Ultimate Language Packs. The Help and FAQ
does not cover this topic and nothing stands out on the GUI. How can users
hide unwanted updates?

A-1: I finally stumbled on this answer just before hitting the post button.
I'm posting it for the benefit of others.

1. Open Windows update from the Start Menu
2. After Vista Checks for updates, click on the "View available updates"
link in the
Control Panel \ Windows Update screen
3. First ensure that any update you wish to hide is unchecked.
4. Right-click on the update and select "Hide Update" from the context menu.

To unhide previously hidden updates, click the "Restore hidden updates" link
in:
Control Panel \ Windows Update.

Q-3: When taking adavantage of the Vista Windows Update feature and
instructing it to install, it takes forever to react and seems to stall at
the "Creating a restore point..." stage of the process. Is this a common
problem? The same process under XP takes a few seconds to complete. Help
anyone!
