Vista Wireless Connection Problem

I have a test computer in my shop with 3 hard drives that are individually turned on by a front
panel switch.
One drive has XP Pro, one has Vista Premium and the third has XandRos Linux.
Hence, except for the hard drives all three systems use exactly the same hardware.

The Linux and the XP systems start and connect to my wireless network and access the Internet just
fine.
However, after every Vista update, I loose the Internet Connection on my wireless.
It connects to the router and see other computers on my home workgroup.
But the connection from the router to the Internet has a large red X on it.

When I click on it for a Network Diagnostics, I get the following Report.

"Security policy setting on this computer might be blocking the connection"
Then in the next window it states:
"The following policy might need to be adjusted to allow windows to connect.
Policy Provider Windows Firewall
Filter Name Query User
If the policy provider identified is Windows Firewall, click of information about adjust Windows
Firewall setting."

When I click, It takes me to the Windows Firewall Settings. There I find the firewall is set for ON
and there is not a check in " Block incoming connections."

I have no idea where the policy setting that might be the problem is found.

Showing the entire network, shows a good connection to the wireless router and to the gateway, but a
red X from the gateway to the Internet.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Footnote: Until today, using system restore to prior to the last windows update fixed the
connection. Today, that did not work

Hey Richard,

Perhaps the security event you mention is being audited. Try going to
Computer->Manage->Event Viewer. To help, emulate the problem again
(sounds like it shouldn't be too hard in your case) and maybe an
error/warning will pop up explaining what is going on. You may need to
sort the events listed down to alerts/warnings from the past hour only.

Hope this helps!

Well at least everything ended on a high note. Technology can behave
very strange sometimes. I'm glad your computer is on the internet now!
