I am trying to create a backup CD and Windows says it needs to format the CD.
It gets almost to the end of the format process and then says it cannot
format the CD. I have tried multiple CD's. It won't burn a backup without
first formatting it.

Hi Wilx!:
If you are running Media Player 11 forget trying to format a data disk. This
piece of junk has compatibility problems with every application in the known
universe. In my case, it would only format from the autorun screen when I
installed a blank disk and then it would shut down my AV application and my
anti-spyware program. It would even do this when I burned an audio disk. And
then it was a one-time only burn. If you attempted to add files to a burned
disk it would either freeze the system or it would go through the whole burn
process and tell you that the burn was successful. However, when you opened
the disk (which also was a sometime thing) you would find that it hadn't
added a single file. I had to keep every file on my HD for fear of losing
them all and hope that I did not have a system crash. After numerous attempts
at finding a solution I gave up. I now run one application solely for burning
DVDs and another for audio files and data. I would suggest you go on line and
do a search for a good burning system (AND IN NO CIRCUMSTANCES BUY NERO!!!!)
Nero gives you no support and, like Norton and McAfee, this application
functions on the theory that your computer belongs to them and will hijack
files from every app on your system. Also, don't bother trying to go back to
MP 10. it's jus as bad as MP 11. MP 9 was the last good application that
Microsoft put out but every search I have conducted only tells me that you
can't find a version that will run on Vista. Be careful with this thing. I
have had it wipe out entire word files if I had the misfortune to have one
open while burning a DVD.
Regards
