I just upgraded to vista home premium from XP with a preinstalled Windows
Media Center. It shows the start up screen, i select play dvd and the screen
goes black. I then get the message, "Windows Media Center has stopped
working" "Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available." That's it. When I attempt to play video on the web i also get a
black sceen where the video should be. (i can play video on youtube, but they
use adobe i think.) I also get a message that says that, "internet explorer
has stopped working" again no solution. I use an MSN browser so i don't get
kicked off the web. (my system: core 2 duo, 32 bit, 2038 MB ram, my graphics
card is on the motherboard) I have an HP a1640n-I just downloaded the new
drivers.

DRM issue I think, Happened to me and I solved it by installing 'Any DVD'
from www.slysoft.com - also make sure you have the DivX Codec package
installed - http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/ (the FREE package)

Hi jel183
I tried those downloads but it didn't work. I don't think it's a DRM issue
because i can't play video even on a site like MSNBC, i just get a black
screen. Although i do hear the sound.
Thanks Sandi

Well, I found out that it was a two fold problem. You have to download the
"drivers" from the Intel website(which I did), but you also have to install
them in to certain folders on the computer. I was lost on that so I had to
hire a tech. guy to come to my house. The 2nd part is that i needed "codec".
Which I don't even know what it is but some type of code that tells your
computer how to play video. He said he installed all the major codec's so
that i should also have no problem playing any video. He also installed a
free video player called, "Media Player Classic". He said that Media Center
is huge and so it can boge down your computer. I'm out $150.00 but everything
works now
