Vista won't start after last update

After the last update, performed on Arpil 5th, 2007 Vista won't start. It
shows loading the system and then only the pointer (arrow) shows on the black
screen. Trying to start in last known good configuration doesn't help.
Booting from Vista DVD and repairing startup - changes nothing; Vista cannot
find anything wrong. I know that I have created sever restore points, but
Vista cannot find them and states no restore points has been created. The
same happens while starting the system in a safe mode. It gets to the point
of a black screen and a pointer and stops working.

I know that my laptop is fine, since I have another hard drive with Win XP
on it and it works fine when I swap the hard drives. I also confirmed that
the hard drive with Vista works. After booting Win XP, I connect the Vista
hard drive through USB and I can successfully read the disk.

Any suggestions and ideas about getting my Vista going again are appreciated.

Hi John,

Thank you for your ideas, though I did not manage to install this update.
The whole thing is that after downloading it and placing it on the hard drive
that has Vista installed and booting with Vista DVD to pull up a CMD, I can
see files on this dirve though there is no way to run .msu and install it.
Vista doesn't even start in s safe mode. And what is important it doesn't
even give any errors :-/

Still trying to figure this one out.
