I was just curious to know if the serial key you get in a 32 bit Windows
Vista Home Premium is the same serial key that will work for the 64 bit
edition. Or if when you order the 64 bit DVD Vista Home Premium if it
comes with a seperate key?

Thanks

If you have already used the key for the 32-Bit version, then that key
has been "locked", and therefore cannot be used for the 64-Bit version.

If you purchase the retail version of Vista Ultimate, you get the
32-Bit and 64-Bit version in the same package, but only one key. It's up
to you to decide which version to install, 32 or 64 Bit. If it gets used
for the one, it cannot be used for the other, and a new key is required.

The same rule applies if you order VHP 64. You'll get a new key for it.

Yes, the product key for the 32 bit version of Vista also works with the 64
bit version, the thing is, if you already have 32 bit Vista installed, you
have to remove it first the install 64 bit Vista with that same key and it
most cases reactivate.

My Windows Vista Ultimate retail copy includes both platforms 32 and 64 bit.

A new key is not required. A phone call to activate will probably be
required.

Why would you post such false information?

A Windows Vista key can be used for the 32-bit or 64-bit version.

It does NOT get "locked" to a certain install.

If you install the 32-bit Vista and decide you would rather have the 64-bit
Vista, you can use the SAME key to put 64-bit Vista on your computer.

Several people, including myself, have used our Vista key to install both
the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista.

I doubt that "dzomlija" posted false information intentionally, if you
read these forums long enough you'll see there's great confusion over
install keys and EULAs and a whole bunch of mis-information circulating
about both.

I can't suggest any fix other than to refer people to the appropriate
MSFT website(s).
