Vista x64 Constantly freezing Chkdsk not working

Hello...
Until just recently my x64 has been freezing completely on me
randomly..I'm not sure if anyone else uses Cox Communications for the
internet, but after I set it up on this computer it's gone bad on me...
first if I were to listen WMP it stops midway song and everything stops
working, then just browsing the net will freeze it, CTRLaltdlte won't
work and I have to shut it down manually...
I have run chkdsk soooo many times, I have also downloaded a registry
repair program, defrag, dsk cleanup, and everything imaginable.
I want to avoid defrag because I don't want to loose my files and
programs.

Any tips/hints...

Back up your data *now*. Then either take the machine to a competent local
computer tech to be accurately diagnosed or do a clean install of Windows.
Don't do the clean install without first testing the hardware, particularly
the hard drive and the RAM since your symptoms can be caused by failing
hardware as well as software (Windows, malware, etc.). If the hardware is
good, you will want to do a clean install since the registry repair program
you used will have wrecked Windows further.

What is a "clean install of windows" and dont I need a disk for that?

Your computer should have come with either a disk intended for
that purpose or instructions on how to create one. If you have
one specific to that computer, either you or the competent tech
should do the clean install from that disk. Any competent tech
should have at least one general purpose Windows disk to use
if retaining features specific to that model of computer is less
important than just getting some version of Windows to run,
though. There are restrictions on using one specific to one
model of computer on another model, even one from the same
company, so try to avoid that.

Many competent techs use a general purpose version that will
try to pack all the files from before into a directory tree afterwards;
but they'll need to use a 64-bit sufficiently similar version to do
that for you. Note that this usually allows you to recover the
data files afterwards from that directory tree, but very few
programs.

If you have an OEM machine (HP, Sony, etc.) then there is a way to enter the
factory recovery process, usually by pressing a function key (like F11)
when the computer is first started. Refer to your manual. Please note that
when you do this everything you put on the computer will be gone so make
sure you back up your data to external media first!
