This one has been driving me nuts for days.
I have a COM+ application we developed, which works fine on XP, Vist
and Windows2008. I want to install and run it on my Vista x64 laptop
I am logged in as Admin (local machine and domain). UAC turned off.
When I run dcomcnfg I can expand nodes but trying to expand the COM
Application node under My Computer, I get the following message dialog
> Catalog Error: You do not have permission to perform the requeste
> action. If security is enabled on the System Application of the targe
> computer make sure you are included in the appropriate roles.Right clicking on My Computer within the dcomcnfg shows some unusua
symptoms. When first clicked, it only shows two tabs (COM Security
MSDTC). When I close this dialog & open it again it shows 6 tab
(include Default Properties etc). The dialog looks broken though
setting 'Enabled Distributed COM on this computer' or other settings ar
not saved when clicking Apply or OK. Also drop downs for 'Defaul
Authentication Level' and others are blank.
I tried sfc to ensure the machine was good, and then ran WMIDiag.
suspect this tool is not x64 aware as it reported 3 missing files i
%windir%/system32/WBEM (which I fixed), but I think this should hav
looked at sysWOW64/WBEM. Anyway, it reports lots of errors of the type
> ** DCOM security for 'My Computer' (Access Permissions/Edit Limits):
> ... MODIFIED
> !! ERROR: Default trustee 'BUILTIN\DISTRIBUTED COM USERS' has bee
> REMOVED
> Problem is that I can't seem to use dcomcnfg to fix these; and I suspec
these may be misleading anyway as the 'COM Security' tab fo
MyComputers, has 'DISTRIBUTED COM USERS' listed under Acces
Permission/Edit Defaults. Uggh
My current theory is that Vista is confused - perhaps x32 vs x6
registry sync? But I am totally stuck & ready to defenestrate th
laptop.
Can anyone help
