Vista x64 font size and quality problems in Internet explorer

I have installed Vista x64 Enterprise, and I am having a number of
font issues

Internet explorer

The fonts are not the same as usual - a little bolder a little
smaller. Sometimes (in the lead story on news.yahoo.com for example)
the font is large in size (30 point or so), but has a resolution of
5x7 pixels - ie very low res large size font.

Buttons and dialog boxes have very small fonts (about 4-5 point in
size)

The Button issue also occurs in other programs - ie installation
software etc where there may be drop down menus or buttons.


My IE has the text as Medium

The fonts are TimeNewRoman and Courier New (Latin)

Changing the sizes of the fonts via IE only makes the web page fonts
bigger, but does not fix the underlying problems.

Any ideas?

Try resetting your Internet Explorer to see if it will fix it. Tools >
Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > under 'Reset Internet Explorer settings'
click 'Reset'.

Thanks for the suggestion - Just tried it - no effect

text is still as described

Have you checked the Zoom Level?

Zoom level is normal - problem is this is a problem that is variable
from web page to web page - some look normal, some have different
looking fonts (more bold looking times roman), and some are large
point but exceedingly low resolution

Have you changed your DPI in "Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization"

It is set at 96 dpi - and I had not changed it - I can change it to
120 and then back to 96 just to see, but then why would the difference
only be on some web pages and not all of them.

I finally tried the dpi change, and there was no effect. The fonts are
larger, but the fonts are "wrong". The resolution is very low (good
point size, but poor res) in news.yahoo.com, while finance.yahoo.com
looks OK?

Is there any way that the fonts themselves could be corrupted, and is
there an easy way to reinstall them?

Loading the web page into vista, it appears that it looks "bad"
because it is using the "terminal" font to render the text on the
page. This again brings to question corrupted or missing fonts. Any
ideas
