Vista64 put back in the mothball closet

I was having so many issues with my 7900GT and Vista64 that I deleted the
partitions with Vista64 on it and re-formatted the HDD so I could at least
get some good use out of it in XP. If anyone cares to do some research on
7900GT and Vista you will see many people are having major issues with it.
Garbled screens to be exact. I thought it was an issue with my CRT not
having an .inf file for Vista but it turns out it happens to people with
nice shiny and newer LCD's too. Screw this crap, I buy PC's to have fun
with and not beta test an OS and Nvidia's drivers.

On a side note, the game Bioshock gets 20fps less running under DX10 in
Vista than it does running DX9 in XP. And the graphics look exactly the
same too. Extreme-tech has the article on that malarkey if you care to read
it.

And if you do, read the discussion boards for some intelligent comments.
Meanwhile you don't have a DX10 board and virtually everyone is having some
problem with the nVidia drivers. One of the pitfalls of being an early
adopter.

For me, the best Nvidia drivers are those that come with the operating
system.

Certainly NOT the one that is (was) on Windows Update. I don't remember
what I installed after that fiasco.

Yea, those worked ok but because I had at one time installed updated ones
from Microsoft update not too long ago it reverts back to those instead.
Or the drivers from Nvidia left something behind that is causing this
issue. Think I'll install Vista on another PC with a lowly Geforce4 and
see if that card has any issues. I saw one person say at the EVGA forums
that it is an issue with factory overclocked cards and Vista, as mine is.
He suggested down-clocking ram and core by 10mhz to fix it. I
could load a modified bios onto my 7900GT if that is indeed a permanent
fix. Some people have been sending their cards back to EVGA because of
this issue and the newer cards they are receiving don't have this issue. I
already sent a 7900GT back to them once because the ram they put on the
card couldn't do their overclock. PITA that was. I fixed it by modifying
the bios on that card and down-clocking the ram by 50mhz but in the end I
set it back to factory setting and sent it back for a replacement. The
assholes should stop overclocking the cards if they don't test them
correctly to make sure they can do the overclock. Then the dicks tried to
charge me shipping both ways for something that was completely their fault.
I made them refund me the shipping charges though. Anyway, anyone else
know if down-clocking a 7900GT will fix this issue with the scrambled
screen? Too late for me to test now because I deep-sixed Vista from my PC.
I complained about it on the Nvidia Usenet group and the only response I
got was some dweeb telling me it is because my shitty CRT can't change
timings correctly. Loser was wrong of course as I have seen pics of people
with LCD's with the exact same issue. Vista has been out for well over 6
months now so it's a bit past claiming it is because we are on the cutting
edge.

No, he means the one that is actually already in Vista.
