I think I read somewhere that Vista can be slipstreamed like windowsXP is
that true?

When SP1 is available will I get a DVD/CD from Microsoft to go with my
ultimate retail version or will I have to download the SP from MS updates?

Tx

Apparently SP1 cannot be slipstreamed into a Vista iso. The Word from
The Man is: "Offline installation of Windows Vista SP1, or of any of the
update packages included in the service pack, is not supported. Offline
installation will cause the Windows image to be corrupted." Yet another
anti-piracy thing apparently, and yes, I'm not sure how that works
either...

Due to the new image-based way of installing you can't just slipstream it in
like you could before. Apparently Microsoft are going to be working on
improving this with SP2.

If Microsoft will slipstream it in-house and provide the ISOs, I'm not sure
anybody has anything concrete yet. If they do that'll be more for
MSDN/Technet subscribers and computer manufacturers than retail.

Apparently MS went quite a long way down the road towards a system
whereby the SP1 binary - or anything else of it's ilk - could simply be
dropped into a directory called 'Updates' which would then be installed
automatically during the setup process, obviating the need for
slipstreaming altogether. Then someone managed to turn that into a
recipe for piracy and scuppered the whole idea. But that's OK and I
accept because I know that deep down, you, me, all of us -we're just bad
people, eagerly awaiting any opportunity, however slight, to steal
someone else's Intellectual Property.

Just get hold of an Anytime Upgrade DVD, this will contain SP1 once the
manufacturing is complete, I'd say wait til end of March.
