I am running Windows Vista Home and at this point in time I am not so sure I
like it that much as it is causing me so many headaches. I have a total of
five downloads waiting to be downloaded. Each time I try the downloads start
and then the download fails with an error code of 80072F78. I have searched
and tried just about everything and nothing seems to work.

I also have Windows Defender installed and it refuses to download the
updates it has. What is the solution to this delemma.

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error
0x80072EFD," "Error 0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message when
you try to use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site:

Gerry - thanks for the reply. At present I have Windows Vista Security
features and a recently expired version of Symantec Internet security and of
course Windows Defender. None of these have changed though since the
computer was purchased and it was able to update now.

I am having problems in downloading most third party software upgrades - for
instance HP Upgrades start to download and fail to complete. I can not even
download the guided help in the Article ID : 836941 that PA Bear mentions.
Somewhere I have something very strong blocking certain downloads I guess

My experience with Vista is limited so I cannot really help. You need to
ask yourself whether the problem is downloading or installing? Many
downloads can be saved to disk and then installed later offline with
your anti-virus and anti-spyware programmes turned off. You also need to
have permissions even more so in Vista than Windows XP. UAC can be very
frustrating and for the brief period I had Vista installed I turned it
off on occasions.

Answer the post by P.A. Bear who has a better understanding of update
issues than I and see what he suggests.

Hello PA Bear

I have read the article you suggested and I wanted to use the guided help as
I am not much at reading Microsoft articles, but I can't get that to download
or install. Also some of the results that the KB says will happen doesn't.
So I am at a loss.

Then I'd recommend that you...

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from
Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no-charge for
support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call,
clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the
update's KB number (e.g., KB931678).

In other countries, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default...r=securityhome > "No-Charge
Support...for virus and other security-related" issues in right-hand menu
for localized contact information.

For more information about how to contact Microsoft for support issues,
visit the International Support Web site:
https://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx
