VLK Product key

When trying to update I get the following message:

The product key found on your computer is from a Volume License Key (VLK),
which has been blocked. A VLK is typically licensed to organizations who want
to use multiple copies of Windows. However, if a VLK is reported as stolen or
leaked, it is then blocked from passing through validation.

The software was pre-installed with the computer and the company has since
closed. I'm not looking to have to go out and buy a exact copy of software I
have already paid for and had no issues with until now. Any suggestions would
be helpful. Thanks

Unfortunately... There is nothing for you to do beyond purchasing a legal
copy of Windows XP - given the details you have. You purchased something
that should not have been sold to you.. UNLESS the company also gave you a
legitimate CD version of the software with a different key - then it is
possible to fix your predicament. If that is the case - respond back.

Make sure in the future you get the software media and the license key and
verify they are legitimate.

Unfortunately if the company sold you a stolen key, that is an issue between
you and the seller and not for Microsoft to resolve.
As with most anything, if it was not theirs to sell, you did not buy it and
may not have any rights to use it.
Even if the company has closed, that does not mean they are immune from the
law.
Contact local law enforcement and Microsoft if you verify you were illegally
sold Windows:

Try the key fix first.

Use the key affixed to your machine. Then activate

What wga is detecting is the image key. Since the company went out
if business microsoft possible deactivated those image keys.

Next Step if that does not work.

What was the Name of the Company that sold your the computer?
If it was a legit company. You need call Microsoft and get them to
send you an xp cd at no charge. They may asked you to fax in a
receipt to prove that you purchased the computer, then when you get
the cd. Do a repair install.

Are you sure? I am talking about the hidden image keys not the oem
keys stuck on your computer.

The "hidden image keys" are pre-activated so activation is not an issue with
those.
Normally, possibly always, those keys will work for installation but not
activation.
That applies to companies in and out of business.
Very few of the smaller OEMs use such a system but instead use the generic
OEM CDs.

Yes it not an issue with Activation but it is with Windows Genuine
Advantage. Especially, since the original poster said the computer
was preinstalled.
