Hi folks,

My memory exp index was 5.9 previously. For some reason, i reinstalled my
Vista includeing all necessary drivers (EXACTLY the same as before). But...
so weird... the memory index drops to 5.3, WTH?

Please help.
I don't wanna have a severe performance degradation...

Thx in advance.

Hi,

Could be drivers, or other bits about how the hardware is detected. Does the
machine perform as fast as before? If so, then why worry about a number? I
seriously wish they had never included it. Too many worry about something
that doesn't really matter.

Do you have the same bios settings as before, for example dual channel
enabled?

hi,

thx.
i know worrying about a number may be not that meaningful, but... since
Vista included this rating tool then it's supposed to behavior ABSOLUTELY
correct. I didn't wanna fuss with a number, but a different number implies
some potential software or hardware bugs; i want to learn about these bugs,
but Vista doesn't tell me.

Talking about the perceiving performance, well, i can't tell the different:
memory speed doesn't do huge impact on normal applications (even some games).
The score 5.3 seems to be the score for a single channel memory stick not
dual channel enabled sticks.

Hope MS can fix this flaw or publish some explanations on this issue.

Oh, yes, exactly the same. i DIDN"T touch anything before and after the
resintallation.

My memory sticks are dual channel enabled, of course. it appears that a
single channel DDR 2 stick couldn't get a score of 5.9.

hi there buddy. i have a similar issue too. i was running vista x64 ultimate
on the following hardware. asus m3a32 mvp deluxe mobo/amd phenom 9850 blk/4 x
1gb balistix ddr2 1066/ati x3850 crossfire. all ratings were 5.9. i changed
to the following gigabyte ga-x48-ds5 mobo/intel q660 slacr core 2 quad. and
then used all of the above other hardware and same vista. but now my memory
has dropped to 5.5. very strange hey. its got to be a platform thing cause i
have spoken to microsoft/gigabyte and intel, but no-one has an answer. dont
figure, maybe some wizard out there might be able to explain it for use.

Daft question, is your memory running at the correct speed now you hav
changed the mobo. This may explain the drop in score

funny you should ask, because it does run all 4 modules at 1066, which is why
ichanged the mobo/cpu platform from phenom to intel. i dont know if you are
aware but phenom would only run 1066 in 2 modules, the minute i put in all 4,
they dropped to 800. thats the limitations of the phenom, but i am surpised
that with this hi speed memory, vista isnt picking it up at 5.9, as i have
only changed the board and cpu.
