I have owned my present pc for just over a year and never had one problem
with it until this past February when I did some Windows Updates. Not exactly
sure which KB number it was but after it rebooted, my tray icon for the
volume control came up missing. Each time I had to go to Control Panel and
into Sounds and Audio Devices and reapply the show icon step. Well, I can see
on here and a lot of other community sites that Microsoft is the problem and
only seems to give us all the runaround or another explanation for how to
restore this to an acceptable fix. They don't as such include the
sndvol32.exe file to download from their site(not that I have found one
there). Maybe in the future they will. However, it says to download it from
the Windows XP CD. Well, my cd that was included in my software package for
my computer does not have this file on it. Strange, yes. Yes its a true
validated copy, and is registered and verified. So, this fix that they
recommend, does not help me or plenty of others in the same boat.
Here is the site where I found a file that could be downloaded for us who
need to fix this latest Microsoft fiasco. Go to Yahoo Answers and type in
sndvol32.exe and it will list
www.relaxingsoftware.com as an avenue to get
the file. Well I clicked on it and it gave me the exact file that I needed to
fix this corrupted or missing file. I saved it on my computer, and haven't
had a problem with it since. I hope this helps others with a missing
sndvol32.exe file. I am a newbie on this stuff. But I can see that loads of
people need help and, really, check into the community groups of as many
sites as you are able to. They are definitely a great source of help when we
need it. Thanks guys for all your dedicated help for us. If you think this is
a bad fix for you, then I just thank you for letting me air this out here.
