Volume difference

I have Vista Ultimate on Disk 1, Home Premium on Disk 2 - separate HDs.
Obviously the same sound card, speakers, etc. The volume level in Home
Premium is much greater than Ultimate. I have checked the VOLUME settings
and the Device Manager settings on both drives, they're the same.

There's got to be some simple thing I am missing - any suggestions
appreciated.

Individual programs can also have their own volume levels in addition to
the general Windows volume levels. Have a look at these if you haven't
already.

AFAIK, none of the programs have volume levels. To be honest, I never knew
they existed. The Start Up and e-mail notification sounds are both
noticeably louder in Home Premium than Ultimate.

You can get an idea of the general sound levels by clicking the sound icon
in the systray (near the clock) and looking at the sliders.

Another place to look is in Control Panel (Classic view) > Sounds

Then click on an item eg Speakers > Properties > Levels (tab) ...

Check the sound level sliders in those places for anything that's looking a
bit low etc. and if so adjust accordingly

I have checked everything mentioned and adjusted accordingly. No matter what
I try, the volume of the Ultimate drive remains lower. I wonder if it is
something specific to the Ultimate version that is causing the issue.
