Individual programs can also have their own volume levels in addition to
the general Windows volume levels. Have a look at these if you haven't
already.

Thanks Jon,
AFAIK, none of the programs have volume levels. To be honest, I never knew
they existed. The Start Up and e-mail notification sounds are both
noticeably louder in Home Premium than Ultimate.
