Try Method 1 first. If no joy, try Method 2 by following the steps laid
out here:

Doing Method 2 will install the latest Version of the Windows Update
Agent [WUA].
If no joy still, please post the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.lo

Start > Run > in the Open: line type, or copy and paste the following
and then click OK or press Enter

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the now open log for the most recent
entries. Copy&paste those into your reply, if necessary.
